Environmental Showdown: Life Cycle Assessment Report on Acrylic vs. Wooden Cigarette Display Stands
The recently released "2023 White Paper on Sustainable Development in Retail Displays" indicates that the environmental performance of acrylic and wooden display stands requires scientific evaluation from a full life cycle perspective.
Acrylic materials show outstanding performance in sustainable usage. Their stable molecular structure allows for a service life of up to 8 years or more, with daily maintenance requiring only wiping with clean water. More importantly, a comprehensive acrylic recycling system has been established domestically, with recycled pellet materials already accounting for 30% of display stand production. However, their petroleum-based origin results in a carbon footprint 42% higher than that of wood.

Solid wood display stands offer unique advantages in carbon sequestration. Each cubic meter of FSC-certified wood can sequester approximately 1.2 tons of carbon dioxide. High-quality beech and ash wood stands can even have a service life exceeding 20 years. However, experts point out that the use of composite boards containing aldehyde-based adhesives may lead to excessive formaldehyde emissions.

Currently, several chain retailers, including CR Vanguard and 7-11, have begun specifying environmental material requirements in their product procurement standards. This environmental debate over display stand materials is driving the entire industry toward a more sustainable direction.
